Rebecca Gibney & Jocelyn Moorhouse on "Living Free" in "Mental"

"Mental", P. J. Hogan's latest movie based on his real experience of childhood was screened at Okinawa Convention Center Theater 1, as part of Competition Laugh.
Actress Rebecca Gibney & producer Jocelyn Moorhouse took to the stage to discuss a film that depicts vividly a mother who has been housed with psychiatrists by her husband, her five children and crazy babysitter Shaz.
"I think the whole philosophy of this festival is fabulous, and I think its great to celebrate films that promote this philosophy," said Moorhouse in an exclusive interview. "A lot film festivals are deadly serious and comedies don’t get much of a look in. So it’s lovely to celebrate films that are uplifting, and funny!"
Gibney who gained 14kg to play the role of the mother of the household, added that comedies "are not easy to make. And I think the average movie-goer really values comedies because they can change your entire outlook on life, even if just for a short time."
For Moorehouse, it was her second trip to Japan, having visited Tokyo International Film Festival 20 years ago for her debut, "Proof". "This is more like Cannes, and I’ve been there twice, it’s very celebratory, everyone’s in a good mood, its on the beach, its tropical."
For Gibney, it was her first trip to Japan, but she is already itching to return. "I spent just 24 hours in Tokyo but where we stayed the people were very stylish, just very cool and in charge of themselves. And so far they’ve loved the film which has helped!"
Moorehouse expressed her delight at the response to the film in Japan and at various international festivals. "We weren’t sure what they’d make of it because it’s very Australian," she said with a big smile.
