Announcement of Additional Entries for 5th Okinawa International Movie Festival “Laugh Category” & “Peace Category”

Some additional entries to “Laugh category” and “Peace category” have been decided.   For Laugh category, there are 2 additional films, one is the big hit comedy “Berlin Kaplani.” The popular Turkish comedian Ata Demirer wrote the script and acted in it. And “Chinese Zodiac” has been accepted. Jackie Chan is the director, scriptwriter and main actor of the film which did over 14,000,000,000 yen in box office, the biggest Jackie Chan film in China ever.  

 

And for Peace category, “The detective is in the bar 2nd Susukino big intersection” was added. The film is the 2nd in the “The detective is in the bar” series. It stars Yo Oizumi and was a big box office hit, with a long run after it opened in September, 2011.

 

In main program, which has the theme “Laugh & Peace”, the Laugh category has 9 films and Peace category has 11 films, for a total of 20 films to be screened.

 

“Laugh category”

 

“Berlin Kaplani”

A big hit comedy where he popular Turkish comedian Ata Demirer wrote the script and acted in it. It is the 3rd time for him to work with director Hakan Algül after “Eyyvah eyvah” (2010) and “Eyyvah eyvah 2” (2011). This time the movie portrays a Turkish boxer who fights desperately in Berlin. When the film opened to the public, it was the top grosser three consecutive weeks in Turkey and it was in the top 10 over 2 months. This remarkable movie screened in Germany, England, Australia and now Japan will get a chance to see it.

Chinese Zodiac

Jackie Chan is the director, scriptwriter and main actor of the film which did over 14,000,000,000 yen in box office sales, the biggest Jackie Chan film in China ever.  

There are many highlights such as the car chase scene at over 120 km per hour with Chan wearing an all-body a roller suit. The big battle with pirates on an uninhabited island, the sky diving fight falling without parachute into an active volcano are alos memorable scenes. Kung-fu action using furniture as props is a theme of Chan’s movies, and so too here. Korean star Sang-woo Kwon also stars. He noted, “This is the last time I will do my own stunts and risk my body.” The movie is a compilation of the best ideas of Jackie’s movies.

“Peace category”

“The detective is in the bar 2nd Susukino big intersection”

 

 “The detective is in the bar” stars Yo Oizumi and was a big box office hit, with a long run after it opened in September, 2011. The great, and strange pair of detective (Yo Oizumi) and Takada (Ryuhei Matsuda) carries this film. The pic has won many prizes such as the 24th Nikkan Sports Film Award, Ishihara Yujiro Award, and 7 prizes from the 35th Award of the Japanese Academy, including Best Film.

The setting is the famous area of Susukino in Sapporo. The story revolves around a murder case concerning their friend (Gori).

It’s hard for the duo to find information in the case and the client is the mysterious beauty (Machiko Ono) who appeared on the scene suddenly. Add to the mix a politician (Atsuro Watabe)  who tries to use his influence on the case. This is the long-awaited 2nd in the series and offers action, entertainment and more, outdoing  the first in the series. So let’s start the adventure, “It’s show time!!”
