Storyline

Yohei Tanaka is a mediocre sales rep. He makes nine wishes when he visits Kuzuryu Shine during a company trip. Then, strangely, his wishes come true, one after another. One of his wishes is to become a film director, having previously ended up failing to become one during his school days.


Yohei’s company celebrates its 50th anniversary and decides to make a biographical film about the company president and Yohei is selected to direct it. He receives co-operation from the people in Uozu, Toyama, where the film is shot. Unfortunately, endless accidents and problems occur as he continues shooting. Is he able to overcome the problems to accomplish his dream? The real meaning of GENGE will only then be revealed.

Plot

Muga Tsukaji, who is well known as a comedian and highly-regarded as an actor, plays the role of Yohei Tanaka. Yu Yamada, a popular model and an actress, is cast as a heroine, with a strong supporting cast of actors from the younger generation, including Akira Kawashima, one of manzai (comic dialogist) duo “Kirin.”


The film is set in Uozu, Toyama, a famously snowy region, with the full cooperation from local residents in in Uozu. Nine hundred people appeared as extras. This film is a heartwarming drama, with a great energy from rural Japan, that will make you unwind and smile through Yohei Tanaka’s honest attitude to pursuing his dream.
