The Okinawa International Movie Festival, which started in 2009 with a theme of “Laugh & Peace,” has its 5th anniversary this year.

I deeply appreciate the Okinawan people, relevant creators, and volunteers, as well as, all the companies, groups, and people who have been involved and supported the Movie Festival.
I am glad the numbers of the people who support and attend the Movie Festival each year as it grows. All your effort and support has fostered the Movie Festival into developing its wonderful uniqueness.

Since the Okinawa International Movie Festival is having its 5th anniversary, we are focusing on the important theme, “Create and liven up the Festival through promoting bonding with the Okinawan people.” To bring the theme into a tangible form, programs are being held in Okinawa that requires the support of Okinawans. We hope to transmit the charm and the power of Okinawa towards the rest of Japan and the world.
The Movie Festival has vast array of entertaining contents and events from all over Japan and the world. I hope the Okinawa International Movie Festival will act an intermediary, through building a bridge between those who are participating from all over.

In addition, we introduce unique contents through a variety of programs in attempt to discover new creators. We would like to contribute to the further development of the Japanese visual entertainment industry through the activities and events of the Movie Festival.
